One morning last week, I found myself driving west just before 7 a.m.—coffee in hand, mind already racing ahead to the day. Then, in my rearview mirror, I caught a glimpse that made me pause. Behind me, the eastern sky was aglow—soft pinks melting into golden orange, the sun rising in breathtaking majesty. It was radiant, full, and so near that it felt as if Heaven itself was breaking through.
Without thinking, I turned the car around, determined to get closer—to see it better, to feel it more deeply. But strangely enough, the more I drove toward it, the farther it seemed to slip away. No matter how much I pressed forward, I couldn’t quite reach it.
And then it dawned on me… I should have simply stopped. Pulled over. Sat still and let myself be present in the wonder of it all. Because sometimes the most sacred moments are not the ones we chase, but the ones we quietly receive.
It reminded me of our walk with God. How often we strive—trying to get closer, do more, be more—when in truth, He’s already near. His presence isn’t something we must chase; it’s something we enter into. In the stillness. In the pause. In the simple act of being fully present with Him.
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
In this season, I’m learning more and more that the beauty we long for—the peace, the clarity, the joy—isn’t running away from us. It’s waiting for us to slow down enough to see it. To embrace it.
So today, wherever you are, may you give yourself permission to stop striving. To rest. To breathe. To simply be.
Because sometimes, the most adorned life isn’t found in the chase—but in the stillness of a divine pause.
